Where are the prompts for Lindsey?

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

They’ve moved over to 2120 West.

We’re moving our discussions over there. That just makes it easier for me to manage, and I hope, easier for you to find what you’re looking for.

If you’ve already made a comment on a post on SunsetDallas, I still have a record, so don’t worry about your credit, but I’m not yet sure if I’ll be able to add them to the new version of the prompts on 2120west.net. I’ll do my best.

See you there.

Skate on over

Monday, September 7th, 2009

to 2120 West to check out a Mr. Lindsey’s final project for his summer art class. Comment on it all you like, but be honest.

When you’re ready to have your own art, photography, poetry, or any other creative project out there on the Internet for the world to gawk at and insult, send it along to editor@2120west.net (hint: that means Lindsey).

Working up new steam at 2120 West

Monday, May 11th, 2009

To all of the faithful out there who are still keeping up with us over at 2120 West: you’ve undoubtedly noticed that we’ve lost a little bit steam in the past few months. There is no one to blame but myself, the dear old editor.

All of that is going to change. 2120 West is going to get the boilers boiling again very soon.

We’ll be readjusting and reorganizing a bit as we go in to the summer semi-hiatus. Expect that with a new school year, a new crop of students, and a refreshed editor, we’ll be ready to take the world by storm in September. There will be a much more steady output of new literature and art, and possibly some new features as well.

That said, summer vacation is almost upon us. In the coming months, you can expect only a few new posts, but I also intend to sweeten the deal with some classic art and literature from my tenure as faculty adviser of the Bison Bits print magazine.

Enjoy, and thanks for reading.

Lindsey’s students, look here!

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Some of you seem be having some trouble finding the correct link to our class page. There are lots of ways to get there.

First, you can type sunsetdallas.net/lindsey directly into the address bar on your favorite browser.

Secondly, you can look to the right and see the Classes & Pages category, and click on the AP Lit link.

Thirdly, if all of that fails, you can click here, or on any of the hypertext links above.

No more excuses.

While your at it, make sure you’re checking in regularly and making contributions (both comments and work) to 2120 West.

Thanks.

New fiction!

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

“The Scar on the Heart of Darkness” by John Fernandez, the winner of the Fairy Tale, Myth, and Legend Competition in Mr. Lindsey’s creative writing class is up on 2120 West.

You should check it out and leave a comment, especially if you like stories about witches who raise beautiful women from the dead, and haunted warriors who can control twisted snakes of barbed wire with their minds.

It’s all kinds of cool.

UPDATED: Andrew is being eaten by a T-Rex. . .

over at 2120 West. Just before his anachronistic demise, he had the opportunity to write a chemistry poem. All hail the nerd king!

Check it out. And head over to our submissions page to get in on the fun.

The blog needs your creativity.

2120 West is looking for contributors

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

Welcome back to Sunset High School and 2120 West, the literature and art blog of Sunset High School.

For those of you that may be new to us, 2120 West highlights student-created literature and art, and serves as a forum for creativity in the public education setting, and now that school is back in session we want to get back at it. Feel free to look around. Stay awhile, and if you’re a creative person who wants to be a part of the blog, check out our submissions page and learn how to become a contributor.

Feel free to contact Mr. Lindsey, the faculty sponsor and blog editor, with any questions or comments.

Takin’ it slow at 2120 West

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

We’ve had a great opening run over at 2120 West. In just five months of operation, we’ve managed to publish about 40 works of art and literature from the Sunset family. Next year promises to be even bigger.

We are, however, going to slow things down for the summer, but we’re stopping short of complete hiatus. During the sunny months we’ll feature work from our faculty and alumni. Expect a post or two a month, rather than the weekly updates that we’ve all gotten used to, and then we’ll be back bigger, faster, stronger, and better with mostly student work by September.

Keep checking in with us. Feel free to subscribe to our RSS feed, and look for updates on our MySpace page.

But we’re not done for the year yet. To take us into vacation season properly, check out the travel photography here and here. We at 2120 West hope that your summer vacation is exotic and romantically black and white.

It’s Juan Carlos Week!

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

Over at 2120 West, we’re celebrating the man who wrote the winning essay for the Dr. Clarence O. & Judy Johnson Scholarship and Essay Competition.

We’ve got three pieces by the one and only Juan Carlos Gonzalez: an admittedly silly sonnet about his shoe, a photograph from one of his recent adventures, and of course, the winning essy.

Enjoy.

Poems for our departing seniors

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

Gisela Gonzalez and Cruz Suarez both have a few parting words for Sunset’s graduating seniors over at 2120 West.

They manage to be touching, even while making references to vomit and lasagna respectively. Trust us, they’re better than they sound.
